Transfer Student Can’t Write on to Journals, Teams (Testimonial)

Hi LR Prof,

Sorry for the late reply, but i wanted to devote the ample amount of time & thought to the email.

Would I transfer again? Yup, ‘Cuse has a more recognizable name and is higher ranked. Career opportunities are just better here. I’d tell people, even in [state], that I was at [school], and nobody knew much about it. Now when i tell friends I’m at [school], I’m met with “Wow, I can’t believe you’re at an Ivy League school.” Admittedly, I can’t find the heart to tell them otherwise!

The school-work seems the same everywhere. The social aspect of transferring is the hard part – your first year you go through hell w/ your classmates and develop an incredible bond. I see that bond here, but i just haven’t developed it w/ anyone. Almost two semesters in, however, i’ve made a lot of friends – but that “i’ve been thru a lot of shit w/ you man” bond just isn’t there.

Also, being a 2L Transfer is a bit of an uphill battle – Law Review is finally excepting transfer applicants, and I just tried out for trial team – and despite getting an “excellent” from one of the judges, they just couldn’t get over the fact that I only had 1 year to give them and not 2. When I first got here, I sent e-mails to all the journals and was met w/ the familiar “sorry, bud – we don’t allow transfers on.” – So I came in w/ a bit of a chip on my shoulder, feeling like I had something to prove – and I did, now all the kids I got better grades than are talking about bringing motions to allow their respective journals to allow transfers to write on.

To summarize, I don’t really miss [school] – I miss my old mates who I went through hell with, but not the school itself (though some choice faculty members certainly!).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for everything,
